So what was the Group Project all about?
Through our interest in biology, we were tasked to collaborate on a research project using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) as our framework.
Goal: choose on one of the 17 UNSDGs and one of its associated targets, then conduct research and collaborate together with a presentation.1
Aim: produce a communication piece highlighting the linkage to molecular biology. It needed to also connect with affiliated topics and concepts taught in BIOL103.
Our agreed UNSDG: ZERO HUNGER – Target 2.12

Key Areas Covered in Presentation:
- Introduction & Brief Background of the UN SDG and chosen target
- Linking chosen goal/target to molecular biology
- Demonstrated understanding of target indicators
- Reflection of molecular biological work/research being conducted
- Future implications, areas of investigation, take home message.
This was an opportunity to:
- Develop our connection with our peers,
- Value the diversity of our peers with respect to opinions, cultures, and professions,
- Showcase our comprehensive knowledge of research currently in the molecular biology field,
- Explore, experience, and reflect on our communication efforts working as a team effectively,
- develop our research skills,
- develop our problem solving skills by apply creativity, and logical/critical thinking.
